In 2012 house producer and BBC Radio 1 DJ Simon Neale reinvented himself from his already well established and respected alias, Dave Spoon, to become one of the best producers in the current trend of bass-heavy house music.
Enter, the Shadow Child.
We don’t need to go through the long discography of Dave Spoon’s music; that is not why we are here. You are reading this either because you (like us) constantly listen to his music and are looking for some fresh meat, or that you’ve never heard of any of the names above and are curious. If you are the latter, I envy you; I envy that you are about to have that feeling of hearing a belter for the first time, the kind that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck as each thump of bass reaches your dirty little eardrums.
Most recently working with Doorly, SC released the summery house track Piano Weapon, later with added vocals as Climbin’. Other gems in his locker include (our favourites) 23, Get At and his remix of Aluna George’s ‘Best Be Believing’. If you still want more, we’d suggest popping on to his constantly updated SoundCloud.

With a weekly show on Rinse FM, the ‘London based, UK-centric urban dance music station’, Shadow Child delivers the freshest bass house every Wednesday evening at 9pm; you can catch it live or wait for the SoundCloud upload on his page. It appears however, that may no longer be enough for Simon as now he’s spilling over into gigs at busy London shopping outlets. Hey, who’s complaining?
Just over a week ago at 10 am (that’s right, in the morning!) SC rocked up to Nike Town, London, and played one of the best sets we’ve heard in a long time. I bet the grannies in there buying Mecurial Vapors for their teenage grandsons had a bloody hoot!
