The Way of the Who?

Kids born in the 80s had a tough choice to make when they reached high school; goth, grunger or townie? No matter which creed-like clan you immersed yourself in, one thing was for sure … you knew what this symbol meant:

WTC No, it’s not Batman.

Ten rap heavy-weights, including Method Man, Ghostface Killah and the late (great?) Ol’ Dirty Bastard joined forces to bring East-Coast rap music to the world’s stage; all rise for The Wu‑Tang Clan. Hailing from Staten Island, New York City, Wu-Tang became one of Rap’s most influential groups and it appears that may have gone to their heads.

I can’t confess to being a die-hard fan (I enjoyed ‘Gravel Pit’, sure) but a quick Google will tell anyone they have had an unreleased album sat in a vault in Marrakech for six years. Six years. Why? It gets better; in a plot to stick the middle finger up to the digital music era and online social sharing sites, they have only made one copy.

Now, that may excite the fans amongst you and if it does then I’d suggest popping yourself onto Paddle8 (“a marketplace for extraordinary art and objects”) because it’s going to be auctioned very soon. Although let’s be honest, it’s probably not going to sell for a tenner is it?

WTC2 If you don’t think you’ll have the cash then all is not lost!

To ensure exclusivity Wu-Tang have attached an 88 year (yes, eighty-eight year) Copyright Policy prohibiting copy, distribution or sale of the secret album. After 88 years, all public and commercial rights automatically transfer to the owner who thereafter can make the decision to release the album or not. So if you’re still kicking around in 88 years’ time and still remember your love for rap music (let alone your own name!) then keep your ear to the ground; you may finally catch a copy of ‘Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’.
